First, let's discuss what smudging is. So what is smudging?
Smudging involves burning a bundle of sage and wafting the smoke over your body or your space to cleanse it. This ritual is known as smudging. The plant you are burning is the sage itself.
Smudging can be used to cleanse negative energy, attract positive energy, improve your mood, and even has a variety of health benefits.
Often, smudging is accompanied by a prayer or recitation which helps to set intentions or focus the energy of the smudge.
Smudging with sage is a tradition that has been practiced by Indigenous communities for generations.
Now that you know what smudging is, let’s get into the biggest mistakes to avoid when smudging!
#1 Not Having Any Intention
Smudging is all about intention. you will see results based on the intention you set.
For example, if you’re smudging to remove negative energy from a room or home, you might try stating that intention out loud or reciting a blessing or related prayer.
If you aren’t making your intentions clear, you might not get the results you’re hoping for.

#2 Blowing Out Your Sage
As you move through your smudging ritual, let the sage burn out on its own, rather than blowing it out or smothering it. When the time is right, the smudging stick or bowl will go out on its own, letting you know that the process is complete.
This will help you get the most out of your smudging experience.
#3 Smudging With The Entire Smudge Stick
You don’t need to Smudge with your entire Smudge stick or Sage bundle. Although you can burn a Smudge stick like a torch. Taking your Sage bundle a part will allow the air to penetrate the Sage. This will give you a stronger, more potent burn. The better the burn, the better the aroma and natural medicines will be released into the air.
Smudge yourself, and then save then save the rest of your Smudge stick or bundle for your next Smudge!
